Spanning over 480,000 square meters, the museum will showcase the rich cultural heritage of ancient Egypt, housing an extensive collection of artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection. With its state-of-the-art facilities and innovative exhibition design, GEM aims to provide an immersive and educational experience for visitors from around the globe.

History

The concept for the Grand Egyptian Museum was first proposed in 2002, with the goal of creating a modern, world-class facility to preserve and display Egypt’s invaluable antiquities.

The location near the Giza Pyramids was chosen to complement the historic site, providing a seamless connection between Egypt’s ancient past and its future.

Designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, the museum features a striking geometric structure with a translucent façade, inspired by the pyramids.

The foundation stone was laid in 2002, and construction officially began in 2012. Despite several delays, the museum is slated to open soon, promising to be a monumental addition to Egypt’s cultural landscape.
